Stob Pyramids

An unexpected treat on our way to Rila Monastery. Stob Pyramids are a set of earth pyramids in the south-west part of Bulgaria. They are a natural rock phenomenon and provide a spectacular experience more appropriate for a sci-fi movie than real life.

The colorful local legend tells the story that the pyramids are wedding guests who were petrified because the bride was so beautiful that the best man attempted to kiss her. Following this legend, some pyramids were labeled as the best man, the groom, the bride, bride’s relatives and other attendants of the wedding ceremony.
