Art or kitsch? Bainbridge frogs

Bainbridge island is a short ferry ride away from Seattle. Quaint and green, it is full of old-time charm mixed with the Northwest laid-back attitude. Some local artists took part in the Frog Art Project this summer. They decorated 36 large white fiberglass frogs that went on display in various locations around the island. In September 2014, the frogs will be auctioned off at a fundraiser. Great idea!

Enthusiastically, I had begun scavenging frogs, but fairly quickly lost any interest. The problem: I failed to recognize these frogs as art objects. Colorful? Yes. Attention  catching? Yes. However, in my opinion, they are not art pieces, but mere kitsch.
