Huay Kaew Waterfall is almost within city limits of Chiang Mai. On a nice winter day, it is an easy pleasant walk past the Chiang Mai University and the Zoo, than a little bit uphill and you are there. Actually, the easy access has 2 sides:
- on the upside, it is a perfect weekend picnic destination for an entire family
- on the downside, because it is so easy to get there and it is free, the waterfall and the park around it is quite crowded.
We went there on Saturday and, in vain, tried to snap a photo of the waterfall sans endless stream of visitors looking for the same. We failed, so we left to explore multiple trails running around the waterfall. Even further along the trail the area was fairly crowded, but we managed to get some good photos.
